About

Our family story is rooted in livestock & arable farming along the Fynn Valley in Witnesham and Westerfield. It began in 1953.

The Partridge family were already farming in Suffolk when my Dad, Mark, then aged just 24, brought his father to look at a farm.

After a meeting with the then Midland Bank, the manager accepted the business proposal that Dad had put together, loaned some money and soon Cockfield Hall was his. The land has been farmed by my family ever since.

Today, as then, the farm is a mix of arable and livestock.

We raise cattle, sheep, a few pigs and seasonal turkeys, alongside growing wheat, barley, oats and field beans. Grass leys are rotated throughout the cropping cycle and are grazed by the livestock, helping us manage the land as part of a mixed, sustainable farming system. The cattle graze during the summer & eat the home-grown cereals and hay when housed during the winter and their manure is spread back on the land. Our cereals are grown using a ‘No Till’ system of Regenerative Agriculture.

Like all farmers, we are always looking ahead, nurturing the land for the next generation — including the very young fourth generation already running around in nappies.

We strive to produce wholesome, sustainable food that our own families thrive on, and we feel proud to share it with you.

We’ll share more about the farm, the farmers and what we do in future blogs.

Services

Fresh Meat from the Farm

When the meat from livestock returns from the butcher, we publish the dates when our pop-up shop will be open to sell fresh, vacuum-packed beef, lamb or pork. When in season, we also offer venison from our own farmland.

Any remaining meat is usually frozen and offered for sale at selected opening times, which we list on our website, Facebook page and Instagram account. Locally made sausages, bacon and eggs are also available most of the time.

Orders, Special Cuts and Collection

We are very happy to take orders for collection, and we can also open by arrangement.

If you would like a particular cut, joint, size, shape or weight from any part of the carcass, please let us know. We will always do our best to help.

We can also offer a bespoke defrosting service. Just let us know when you would like to collect.

Honey, Coffee and Home-Made Treats

Our fledgling beekeeper is working hard to keep several colonies of bees happy, with hives sited among our pollen and nectar plots. Jars of honey will be available from time to time — and it doesn’t get much more local, as most of the hives are within a mile of the shop.

A coffee trailer serving sausage, bacon and egg breakfast rolls will soon be up and running, please watch this space for times and dates available.

We also offer home-made cakes, including chocolate brownies and carrot cake. With plenty of walnuts and moist carrot, the carrot cake is almost a health food!

FAQ

When are you open?

We open in a true pop-up sense, when we have livestock back from the butcher. Please see our opening dates for information, and follow our social media accounts for details.

Do you offer any baked goods?

YES! We will often have homemade cake, scones, sausage rolls (including beef sausage meat) and chocolate brownies. We also have a choice of meat pies ready to pop in the oven for tea!

Will the meat be fresh or frozen?

The new intake of meat will generally be offered fresh for sale, vacuumed packed. We will keep a stock of steaks, pies, burgers, sausages and any fresh meat unsold in the freezer, and this will available when we are open or by arrangement, so please enquire if you’d like anything specific.

Where are the livestock butchered?

We have long used a well-established, family run abattoir that we trust, who have a high standard of hygiene and animal welfare. C.Humphreys and Sons provide us with a very professional service. All our livestock is slaughtered using a bolt gun or gun. The cutting-up of the carcass is done by the crack team of skilled butchers at Becky’s Butchers. They also make our Pies!

Do you take card payments?

Yes, we have a variety of ways to pay including cash, card, bank transfer or barter.

My Freezer is full; can I leave my purchases with you for collection later?

Yes! At your own risk (although we promise to do our best!) you may leave your meat with us for upto two months. We can get it thawed for you with 24 hours’ notice too. A small donation to either St Elizabeth hospice or MacMillan Cancer Support would be warmly appreciated.

Do you do BBQ packs?

Yes, but they are Pick Your Own! Please choose the items you would like, and we’ll pack them! Then we give a discount depending on volume.

Are any products Gluten Free?

Yes. We offer 100% beef burgers just seasoned with salt & pepper and gluten-free pork sausages. Gluten is handled by our butchers and in our packing area, we just don't have the space to devote to a completely separate area.

Does your meat contain antibiotics or growth hormones?

No. Like all UK farms, our meat and all the meat from the British Isles, it does not contain any antibiotics or growth hormones.

I haven't cooked a certain cut / joint / meat before, how do I make the best of it?

All members of the family enjoy cooking and are all very capable cooks, so please just ask and we'll try and point you in the right direction. No such thing as a silly question!

The dates on your fresh produce labels - what do they mean?

The “Frozen On” Date on Our Labels - when the meat is offered fresh - this is the date it ws cut and packed by the butcher.

Meat sold at our Partridge Family Farm Fresh Pop-Ups is fresh and has not been frozen, even though the label shows a “frozen on” date. Let us explain - This is the date the pork, beef or lamb was cut and packed by Becky the butcher. It is included because any stock left after a pop-up will be frozen. Please use fresh meat within 8–10 days of the printed “frozen on” date, or freeze. Thank you for supporting us, we are proud to offer you our farm to fork meats.
